September is here already, and we are entering the most favorable time of year to plant trees and shrubs! This is when nursery guys plant their new trees. Warm days and cool nights, along with higher seasonal moisture add up to perfect planting weather! Sale prices are a nice bonus. This time of year is also the recommended time to treat your larger trees to prevent Japanese Beetle damage next June and July. Winterland Nursery has the right products, and advice, to help your trees and shrubs fight off those nasty beetles next year. They will be back! We can help. If you are an early morning TV watcher, you may have caught a few of Melinda’s Moments, the gardening segment we helped sponsor this spring on WKOW’s Wake up Wisconsin morning show. Melinda Myers is a very well known gardening educator from the Milwaukee area. She has lots of great gardening tips every week and they are relevant and timely for our area. Please try and catch these gardening tips on Friday and Saturday mornings. We are thrilled to report that our Nursery Plastic Recycle Project far exceeded our goals. Winterland Nursery collected TWO full semi trailers of pots, flats, baskets, tags, chemical jugs and barrels, edging, and drain tubing! Our two largest contributors were Schonheit Gardens, and Ganshert Nursery and Landscapes. Some local gardeners dropped off just a few odds and ends, and that was appreciated just as much! Thanks to our local volunteers who helped us stack and wrap each pallet, this project was productive and fun! Please look for this event again next August!
